Surrounded by two arms of the Ill, the "Grande Ile" (Big Island) is the historic centre of the Alsatian capital which, within a restricted area, contains an outstanding complex of monuments. The Cathedral, the four ancient churches and the Palais Rohan - former residence of the prince-bishops, far from appearing as isolated monuments, form a district which is very characteristic of a medieval town, and representative of the evolution of Strasbourg from the 15th to 18th centuries. |

Entourée par deux bras de l'Ill, la "Grande Ile" constitue le centre historique de la capitale alsacienne. Dans un périmètre restreint, elle renferme un ensemble monumental d'une remarquable qualité. La cathédrale, les quatre églises anciennes, le palais Rohan, ancienne résidence des princes- évêques, n'y apparaissent pas comme des monuments isolés, mais s'articulent à un quartier ancien très représentatif des fonctions de la ville médiévale et de l'évolution de Strasbourg du XVe au XVIIIe siècle. |

Rodeada por dos brazos del río Ill, la Gran Isla es el centro histórico de la capital alsaciana. En una zona bastante reducida alberga un conjunto de monumentos de calidad excepcional: la catedral, cuatro iglesias antiguas y el palacio de Rohan, antigua mansión de los obispos-príncipes. Estos edificios no están aislados, sino que se articulan con un barrio antiguo que ilustra las funciones desempeñadas por la ciudad medieval y la evolución de Estrasburgo entre los siglos XV y XVIII. |

Die von zwei Armen des Flusses Ills umgebene Grosse Insel bildet das historische Stadtzentrum der elsässischen Hauptstadt. In einem kleinem Gebiet enthält sie einen monumentalen Bauwerkkomplex bemerkenswerter Qualität. Der Dom, die vier alten Kirchen, der Palast Rohan, eine ehemalige Residenz der Fürstbischofe sind keine einzelstehende Gebäude sondern gehören zu einem alten Viertel, der die Funktionen der mittelalterlichen Stadt und die Entwicklung von Straßburg zwischen den 15ten und 18ten Jahrhunderten sehr gut darstellt. |
