Torun owes its origins to the Teutonic Order, which built a castle there in the mid 13th century as a base for the conquest and evangelization of Prussia. It quickly developed a commercial role as part of the Hanseatic League, and many of the imposing public and private buildings from the 14th and 15th centuries that survive in its Old and New Towns are striking testimony to its importance. |

Die Stadt Torun ist dem Deutschen Ritterorden ihren Ursprung schuldig. Der Orden hat nämlich dort im 13ten Jahrhundert sein Schloss errichtet, dass als ein Stützpunkt zur Eroberung und Christianisierung Preußens benutzt wurde. Sehr schnell spielte Torun eine Rolle für Handel in der Hansaliga. Viele unter den großartigen öffentlichen und privaten Bauwerken aus den 14ten und 15ten Jahrhunderten, die in der Altstadt sowie in der Neustadt weiterbestehen, zeigen ihre Wichtigkeit. |
